Smoke signals – 2019
Méthacrylate installation, variables dimensions: 100×60cm, 20x30cm, 30x40cm
The title of this work refers to the global urgency to respond to and take responsibility for the current migration crisis. The dense red cloud, which appears in the accordion book display, is a distress signal that is used on ships, boats and life rafts to trigger a message of help in the middle of the sea. This floating smoke works even in broad daylight.
This installation is part of a series of works, which touch upon current political issues such as migration & border controls. The works not only reflect the political status quo, but rather invite the beholder to perceive current circumstances from a stand point of the past, and how these have developed ever since.
